Hey folks,
I’m getting really tired of social media. I know we need to promote NovaFuture, but honestly, it’s exhausting. Microblogging is pointless. People just talk to themselves. There’s no real exchange, just ego trips. Sometimes dick-measuring contests. Even on libre networks, it’s not much better.
A while back I was on Masto managing the NF account. I posted something with a bit of playful humor and this guy shows up with his high horse attitude to explain to me what punk is. I couldn’t believe it! Some dude trying to lecture someone who actually lived through the punk era about what punk means. I didn’t even bother responding because there’s zero point in trying to prove anything to someone who’s just showing off online.
And then I remembered Emmanuel’s interview with Shotcut. At one point Dan says something like, it’s better not to respond at all than to respond with something mean. Because even if you’re just defending yourself, you’ll come across as aggressive. I think he’s right.
But more importantly, I think it’s time people wake up and come back to old-school forums. Honestly, I see zero value in wasting time trying to have conversations with character limits. Yeah sure, there’s Lemmy and all that. But why does everything always have to be federated, some giant complicated machine? I’m perfectly happy here in our good old bbPress. And when we get more people, it’ll be even better.
For now, just posting content on other networks is enough. If people want to discuss, they can make the tiny effort to come here. I’ll admit, at least on the Fediverse we get some nice exchanges, but the format is too superficial for real in-depth discussions.
Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. That’s just like, my opinion, man.
I code. I hunt bugs. I exterminate trolls. And I love novaFuture <3
