    Hey folks,

I’m getting really tired of social media. I know we need to promote NovaFuture, but honestly, it’s exhausting. Microblogging is pointless. People just talk to themselves. There’s no real exchange, just ego trips. Sometimes dick-measuring contests. Even on libre networks, it’s not much better.

A while back I was on Masto managing the NF account. I posted something with a bit of playful humor and this guy shows up with his high horse attitude to explain to me what punk is. I couldn’t believe it! Some dude trying to lecture someone who actually lived through the punk era about what punk means. I didn’t even bother responding because there’s zero point in trying to prove anything to someone who’s just showing off online.

And then I remembered Emmanuel’s interview with Shotcut. At one point Dan says something like, it’s better not to respond at all than to respond with something mean. Because even if you’re just defending yourself, you’ll come across as aggressive. I think he’s right.

But more importantly, I think it’s time people wake up and come back to old-school forums. Honestly, I see zero value in wasting time trying to have conversations with character limits. Yeah sure, there’s Lemmy and all that. But why does everything always have to be federated, some giant complicated machine? I’m perfectly happy here in our good old bbPress. And when we get more people, it’ll be even better.

For now, just posting content on other networks is enough. If people want to discuss, they can make the tiny effort to come here. I’ll admit, at least on the Fediverse we get some nice exchanges, but the format is too superficial for real in-depth discussions.

Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest. That’s just like, my opinion, man.

I code. I hunt bugs. I exterminate trolls. And I love novaFuture <3

Fuck yes, I’m totally with you on this! Social media is like a sewer for human thought. With structured-data forums like this one, we used to make real friends. Sometimes we even managed to meet IRL. But now, everyone’s giving up! They say a forum is too hard to manage so better stick to Reddit spending your life shutting up to farm karma, or a Facebook group to go hunting for likes. People are fucking sheep! Specialized forums were what made the web rich and now there’s barely anything independent left. I’ve also stopped responding on social media. Don’t have the patience anymore and don’t want to waste my life on stuff with zero depth. We’re getting close to NF version 8. And I think before we launch it we need to have a serious discussion about the NF environment. This place is like Captain Harlock’s ship. We can’t keep getting pushed around, we need to come out of the shadows and show clearly that in these difficult times the underground is still here. Growth hacking is a strategy. We use it well. But I see it as a booster we need to detach from. It’s started, we need to go further. First off, I propose we communicate more on the forum rather than our private channels to show there’s life here. OK we’re not 10k strong but at least we’ve got quality exchanges. We still have things to prove. I know it sucks to have to prove the obvious. But we’re gonna do it. That’s our challenge. We’re working hard for that. And when it succeeds we’ll be able to say we didn’t work for nothing.

I may be just a peasant... But I know how to fight!

Oh my god! I tested it today on the shared NF account on mas.to. Instant mansplaining, super condescending vibes. Zero valid arguments. The guy claims he’s some mystical AI researcher for over 20 years. Tries to lecture ME about ecology, the meaning of life, all that jazz. Then has the audacity to complain about NF’s post illustrations like he’s at a department store customer service desk. Like… who ARE these people? Even at trans goa parties people are less out there! You dudes are so right. Social media is just pure ego trip. And the ones with the most followers? Probably the worst. Either massive insecurity trying to crush others to feel relevant, or straight-up predators hiding behind fake niceness. You guys know me, I’m super chill. But hearing some random tell me I’m not respectful of ecology when I’m vegan BY CONVICTION and minimize my footprint on nature as much as humanly possible? Yeah, that got me heated. Now I totally get what you’ve been saying. These social networks, libre or not, they bring out the worst in people. I just wanted to test it myself to confirm. You were right all along. Happy holidays from Italy, loves! 💚
